CFL Player of the Day: Sam Etcheverry, Montreal Alouettes (1952-60)

Sam Etcheverry played for the Montreal Alouettes from 1952 to 1960, and passed for a record of 508 yards in a losing effort in the 1955 Grey Cup (won by the Edmonton Eskimos. 34-19).

He was the head coach of the Alouettes from 1970 to 1972, winning the 1970 Grey Cup 23-10, over the Calgary Stampeders.

Etcheverry was elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1969. He died on August 29, 2009, at the age of 79.
