Player of the Day: Tommy Grant

Tommy Grant played 14 seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1956-68) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1969).

He was named Eastern Division Rookie of the Year in 1956, and was an All-Eastern running back (1963), All-Eastern flanker (1964), All-Canadian flanker (1964), and Schenley Award winner for Most Outstanding Canadian (1964). He played in 9 Grey Cups and was a member of 4 Grey Cup Champions (1957, 1963, 1965, 1967).

Grant was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in 1998

Today's Player: Peter Neumann

Peter Neumann played 14 seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1951-64). He was a nine-time All-Eastern defensive end and All-Canadian defensive end in 1964.

Neumann played in eight Grey Cups and was a member of three Grey Cup Champions (1953, 1957, 1963).

He was inducted in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1979, and the Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in 2011.

Player of the Day: Vince "Boomer" Scott

Vince "Boomer" Scott played for the Hamilton Wildcats (1949) and Tiger-Cats (1950-62). He played in 6 Grey Cups (1953, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962).

He was an All-Eastern guard (1949, 1950, 1952) and All-Eastern defensive lineman (1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959).

Scott was inducted in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1982, and the Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in 2009.

He died on July 13, 1992, at the age of 67.

Player of the Day: Joe Zuger

Joe Zugar played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for 10 seasons (1962-71), and played on 3 Grey Cup champions (1963, 1965, 1967). He was the game's Most Valuable Player in 1967.

After he retired as a player, he was the Tiger-Cats assistant coach in 1979. He was general manager from 1981 to 1992, winning the Grey Cup in 1986.

He was inducted into the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in 2007 and Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Player of the Day: Dick Shatto

Dick Shatto played for the Toronto Argonauts for 12 seasons (1954-65). He was an All-Eastern running back 8 times (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964) and All-Canadian running back in 1964.

After his playing days, Shatto worked as a CFL broadcaster and general manager of the Argonauts. 

He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1975 and the Toronto Argonauts Hall of Fame in 1996.

Jim Quandamatteo played for the Hamilton Tigers in 1948 (before they merged with the Wildcats and became the Tiger-Cats), Montreal Alouettes (1949) and Edmonton Eskimos (1950-55). He played on three Grey Cup Champions (1949, 1954 & 1955).

He was a second team West All-Star guard in 1950 and 1951, and  first team West All-Star guard in 1953.  

Quondamatteo on November 16, 2006, at the age of 79.

Today's Player: Ezzret "Sugarfoot" Anderson

"Sugarfoot" Anderson played for the Calgary Stampeders for 6 seasons (1949-54). He played in the 1949 Grey Cup.

Calgary Herald - November 12, 1949

Anderson was inducted into the Calgary Stampeders Wall of Fame in 1990 and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

He died on March 8 2017, at the age of 97.

Ben Zambiasi played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1978-87) and Toronto Argonauts (1988). He was an All-Canadian linebacker 6 times (1978-82, 1985) and All-Eastern linebacker 8 times (1978-82, 1984-86). He played on one Grey Cup Champion (1986).

He was named to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in 2002, and inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

Player of the Day: Norman "Normie" Kwong

Normie Kwong played for the Calgary Stampeders (1948-50) and Edmonton Eskimos (1951-60). He was the Western Division leading rusher in 1951, 1955 and 1956 and gained 9,022 yards during his career.

He played on four Grey Cup Champions (1948, 1954, 1955 and 1956) and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1969.. 

After his football days, Kwong served as lieutenant governor of Alberta from 2005 to 2010.

He died on September 3, 2016, at the age of 86.

Player of the Day: Wayne Harris

Wayne Harris played for the Calgary Stampeders from 1961 to 1972. 

 He was an All-Western linebacker 9 times (1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971) and All-Canadian linebacker 8 times (1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971). He also received the Schenley Award for Most Outstanding Lineman in 1965, 1966, 1970, 1971.

His jersey number 55 was retired in 1973. Harris was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Calgary Stampeders Wall of Fame in 1985.

He died on June 4, 2015, at the age of 77.

Peter Dalla Riva played for the Montreal Alouettes from 1968 to 1981. He was an All-Eastern tight end in 1972, 1975 and 1976, and All-Canadian tight end in 1972, 1973 and 1975. He played on three Grey Cup Champions (1970, 1974 & 1977).

Dalla Riva's jersey number (74) was retired by the Montreal Alouettes on October 24, 1981. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Alouettes Hall of Fame in 1993.
