News on February 2, 1954

Edmonton Eskimos coach Darrell Royal accepts the head coaching job at Mississippi State. Royal led Edmonton to a 12-4 record and lost to Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU) finals during the 1953 season. 

(Note: Royal will eventually become the head coach at the University of Texas (1957-76) and lead them to three national championships (1963, 1969, 1970).
