Sonny Wade played for the Montreal Alouettes from 1969 to 1978. 

Wade led the Alouettes to 5 Grey Cup appearances, winning three. He was named the Most Valuable Player of 3 Grey Cup Championships (1970, 1974, 1977).

He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1994
