Former Alabama head football coach J.B. "Ears" Whitworth was hired as an assistant coach by the Montreal Alouettes. Whitworth had a record of 4-24-2 in three seasons at Alabama and was recently replaced by Paul "Bear" Bryant.
The Calgary Stampeders will not increase ticket prices for 1961 season. They hope to makeup increased costs of travel with interlocking (inter-divisional) schedule by increasing season ticket sales. Stamps ticket prices are $5, $4.50, $4, $3 and $2.
Harold Ballard threatens to fold Hamilton Tiger-Cats if he is unable to sell team; Calgary Stampeders general manager Norm Kwong thinks Stamps are getting shafted; Television networks have renewed interest in televising CFL games.

Montreal Alouettes head coach Marv Levy will assume role of general manager in addition to coaching duties. Alouettes have obtained permission from the Toronto Argonauts to negotiate with quarterback Joe Theismann.
(Note: Marv Levy was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2021. Joe Theismann signed with Washington in the NFL in 1974 and played for them until a career ending injury in 1985.)

Decisions were made at closed meetings of the Canadian Football League regarding the Grey Cup and East-West Shrine All Star game. The 1959 Grey Cup will be played in Toronto, but the exact venue has not been decided. It will be played at either the Canadian National Exhibition Stadium or Varsity Stadium. Also, the annual East-West Shrine All-Star will discontinued.

An interlocking schedule between the Big Four (eastern) and Western Interprovincial Football Union was not approved at the second annual meeting of the Canadian Football League. Gross receipts from the 1958 Grey Cup was a record $427,264. Attendance at the game was 34,462.
